Passive suction cups

Passive suction cups

Our suction cups with the clingfish-effect can attach to smooth surfaces, surfaces of various surface roughness, and structured surfaces. Moreover, these surfaces do not have to be even but can be bent. The tolerated surface irregularities vary somewhat with the size and the design of the suction cup. For example, passive suction cups with a diameter of 6-8 cm tolerate surface irregularities up to approximately 1 mm in height. Firm surfaces are perfect, but a certain flexibility is tolerated. Nevertheless, the surfaces must be non-porous.

Examples for applicable surfaces

Structured Surfaces

For example structured tiles (image 1-3), structured glass and acrylic glass (image 4), or structured metal (image 5-8)

Rough surfaces

For example anti-slip and other rough tiles (image 1-4), unpolished non-porous rock e.g. marble and granite (image 5-6), scratched and rough metal (image 7), laminate (image 8), wood-imitations/sealed wood, plaster pool surfaces (image 9), and all kind of rough surfaces covered with a sealing varnish.

Smooth surfaces

For example smooth tiles (image 1), polished nonporous rock surfaces such as marble or granite (image 2), glass, acrylic glass, ceramic, kitchen counters, melamine coating.

Non-applicable surfaces

All kind of porous surfaces (independent of the surface structure) such as

  • Plaster walls
  • Most unsealed woods
  • OSB board
  • Porous rocks such as sandstone

On just slightly porous surfaces (such as some concrete walls) the passive suction cups will firmly attach for a certain time, but not in a long run as air leaks through the wall over time.
